Featured Alumnus Q&A: Meet Mr. Kendall Evans
Q: Tell us about yourself. What do you do? Briefly, what has been your educational and/or career path?
A: I am currently in my 18th year as a DC Public Schools educator. Early in my career, I taught grades 3-5, reading, math, science, and social studies. As the District's strategy for elementary education shifted, I focused on teaching math and science. I am currently a math interventionist and professional development leader at Lawrence E. Boone Elementary School. I also serve as Boone's Athletic Director, where we are fielding cross country and outdoor track teams for the first time this year.
Q: What are your favorite memories of Banneker?
A: My favorite memories of Banneker include participating in the Southern College Tour, playing intramural badminton during our lunch breaks, and forging life-long relationships with classmates and faculty.
Q: What songs were popular during your senior year?
A: In 1999, some of the popular songs were "Hard Knock Life" by Jay-Z, "Everything is Everything" by Lauryn Hill, and "I Heard It's the Bomb" by Backyard Band.
Q: What advice do you have for current students?
A: Build relationships with your teachers, counselors, and administration. They have a wealth of knowledge, so do not hesitate to ask them for advice.
